The charming and irascible Gerhard Self returns on the trail of a mysterious blonde, in a case of abduction, conspiracy and corruption.
When a young woman goes missing in Berlin, her father, an overbearing local affical, demands that Private Investigator Gerhard Self track her down. Bu Sweet Afton-somking, armchair-philosopher Self requirea some gentle persuasion if he is to take on the case. In this instance, the persuasion arrives in the from of 5.000 marks in cash, deliverd in an unmarked brown envelope, enclosed with a photograph of the missing gril; however, Self becomes suspicious when it seems there may more for him to uncover than just the location of the official's daughter.
As he tries to discover the trurth, Self's own sense of right and wrong becomes increasingly blurred, and his moral compass turns out to be unexpectedly shaky. As secret after secret is unearthed, Self finds hinself faced with the question: just who is deceiving whom?
